My savage 223 will shoot a 1.5" group at 300 yards using 69gr matchkings loaded to just over 3000fps. I haven't shot paper further than that, but I would expect good things. The bullet drops 24ish inches at 400yards, 45ish at 500yards, and 84ish at 600 yards sighted in an inch high at 100yards....in theory I could do a 3" group or so at 600yars, but haven't tried it yet.

I have no problem htting a man size target at 300 yds with an EOTech rapid fire. I'm no pat rogers either. It just takes a little practice. A 16inch bbl is fully capable with a good shooter.

There's guys who regularly shoot out to a 1000 with modified .223's. Usually using 90+ grain bullets, loaded one at a time. I'd think 500 wouldn't be a whole lot of a challenge shooting 77+ grain Matchkings or VLD's. Better get good at doping wind and range though

Not many use 90gr bullets, not enough space in the cartridge for powder. 80gr Sierras work but most use Berger 80gr VLDs or Berger 82gr bullets.
