I'll try to make the next TGF event and maybe we can do that.

I've never shot a revolver aside from my black powder one before

Nice!

The 44's a sweet shooter, anyone that has been apprehensive to shoot it always says "That wasn't so bad" afterwards even with some bad mamojammas in it.

Went to the range today..

Had a few jams.. but after adjusting my hand position on the gun and learning the trick to properly chambering a round, it seems to be working perfectly. I'm thinking the hogue grips w/ finger grooves will make it more comfortable to hold.

will be heading out again in the morning.. to meet a co-worker..

I'll apply the technique I learned from the results of my previous research and see if I can get through the session without any jams.

At this point, I feel pretty confident that it was shooter error.

Recoil was very manageable.. the weight of the gun and the gas mechanism really take the edge off of the .44 magnum round.. I felt the recoil a bit more than I did when I shot someone else's Springfield XD in 40 s&w.. I'd say the comparison to a .45 ACP round going off on a glock or similar is a pretty apt comparison to .44 magnum in this gun.

I could shoot it all day with better grips and cooler weather

This!

I would give any auto a 200-500 grace period, sometimes you need to work the burrs off.

I've got 105 rounds through her so far.. I can feel the slide getting easier to operate.

The only "jams" I had when I was shooting were the slide not going all the way forward.. just needed a little "love tap" to make it finish the track.

I realized when I got home that I had forgotten to lubricate the slide..

Dad suggested powdered graphite for the slide, since it wouldn't get gunked up like oil will do when exposed to heat... so I'll give that a try in the morning.

This thing is currently my baby.. so I give it the full disassembly treatment when I get home.. (minus the frame and trigger mechanism, of course..)

Takes less than 10 minutes to take apart, but over an hr to clean all of the little pieces.. but I do my best to keep it looking like it just came out of the box.

That is a beauty, cant really appreciate how big those things are until its infront of you. Not to thread jack, but at a shop that I go to they had the 50 cal one. It was hilarious watching my 14 year old trying to pull the slide back.

haha.. I can only imagine..

When I pulled the thing out of the hard case.. and held it for the first time, it dawned on me just how heavy the beast really is.

Put another 65 rounds through her this morning..bringing the total to 170.. she's definitely limbering up..

down to 2 actual jams.. both of which were on the last round in the mag.. most shots were fed and loaded perfectly.. she's getting there!

Now if I can just learn proper trigger control I'll be in business.

Definitely finding rem oil (no nasty fumes like break-free) and a hard bristle toothbrush to be the easiest way to clean it.. though that whitebox winchester ammo seems awfully dirty..

My hogue finger groove grips should be here Monday.. can't wait to get these plastic things off..
