I couldn't help but read the responses (mostly drivel) but this response caught my eye. Very well thought out.

Good grief. Folks, may I respectfully suggest you go back and reread the article again? I'm not sure where you are getting some of these ideas from, but it's not from the article. I think that a lot of you are reading into the article things that are simply not there.

To pick up a few points, Alan, where was Project Appleseed when GWB was in the White House? Just getting started - there were two Appleseed Shoots in the entire country in 2005. It's been tripling in size (or more) each year since. Ed Smith - exactly where did it say that Appleseeders want no government? On the contrary, we want to see people more involved in the government! I'm sure that that was mentioned in the article. Jack in Illinois - you might want to re-read the Heller decision and the McDonald decision before saying that no one has a right to keep a gun for self-defense. According to the Supreme Court, every American does.

Now, lest someone accuse me of sailing under false colors, I am an instructor for Project Appleseed. At NO TIME do I ever advocate using the cartridge box for political change - I do advocate keeping a very sharp eye on your representative and senator, and making sure that they're doing what you want them to. I had three great-great-uncles in the Civil War - one was quite enough for this country and I never want to see another one. If your senator or congressman isn't doing the job you want him or her to do, bounce them out of office on their tails - VOTE THEM OUT. Try running yourself if you don't think he or she is doing a good job. Did I just misread that article two days ago where it claimed that only 12 percent of the country trusts the Congress? Then why do so many incumbents get re-elected if they're doing such a horrible job? Answer: Because WE, as Americans, aren't doing OUR job - When Thomas Jefferson said that "Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty", he meant that WE should be watching the GOVERNMENT... not the other way around.

Oh, and to the person who claims that it's only folks in the south who are Appleseeders? Some of our most active programs are in California, New York and Illinois. Hardly southerners. Me? From NJ originally, and I now live less than 20 miles from Concord, MA - where British colonists first started to think of themselves as Americans. Definitely NOT a southerner.

Full Disclosure: I am an Appleseed instructor. I attended my first event in Nov 2009 while working in Tallahassee and have been with it ever since. Since the beginning of 2010 I have easily given up half of my weekends as a volunteer to bring this excellent program to any and all who show up on our line.

Here is another good article on appleseed from WAPO:

http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn...042205535.html

I make it a point never to read the comments about articles featuring Appleseed. There are occasionally some gems amongst the flamers, baiters and haters, but having to dig through that much poo to get to them is a waste of my already overtaxed brainpower.

With regard to our history presentations, they are largely derived from David Hackett Fisher's book Paul Revere's Ride. We tell the story of April 19th, 1775 in three parts and then wrap that up with some vignettes about the actions of individual men and women that day.

We try to make them as accurate as possible and acknowledge that some points cannot be known for sure, such as who fired the first shot on Lexington Green. I think the only real differences you'll find in our version of that day is the passion with which we tell the story!

The purpose of this is to remind us all as Americans that were born into liberty of the sacrifices that were made (and are still being made) to leave us this amazing country!

What will we do with that?

Please come out and judge for yourself and in between the history lessons, you will receive the best group and individual instruction on how to improve your field marksmanship this side of the Marine Corp. (they helped develop it)

Our next event that's fairly close to Tally is in Starke, FL in two weeks.

This range goes out long so we'll be shooting out to at least 400yards (and hopefully 600) by the end of Sunday should time and the grit of our shooters permit.

and while it's not in the flyer, a little bird whispered in my ear that there's gonna be a 60 lb pig roasted fer supper.

Keep in mind that Appleseed is free for women, under 21 and active military.

If you have any questions about the event, accomodations etc. shoot me a pm.

I hope to meet a few more of the fine folks here at TGF at this shoot!
